What it is

An innovation summit in health and technology.

Organised by UMFST “George Emil Palade” University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Science and Technology of Târgu Mureș, together with Romanian Business Leaders. Three components work together — and the first edition takes place in November 2026.

01 · Accelerator

UniCity Factory

Selects and prepares projects through an accelerator programme.

02 · Exhibition

Expo Area

Brings companies and research groups into the same hall with their technology.

03 · Finals

Finals & Matchmaking

Connect prepared projects with capital and clinical partners.

Why we are building this

The research and the capital rarely meet — and usually by accident.

Central Romania has a research base in medicine and a business community with capital. The two meet rarely. Research projects with clinical potential stop at the publication or prototype stage because the route to a partner, a pilot or an investment round is not mapped out.

Universities produce results that do not reach patients. Companies look for technology and talent outside the region. Investors interested in life sciences in Central and Eastern Europe have few structured occasions to see what is being built here. The Summit addresses that specific gap.

Mission

To give research and technology projects from Romania a working route to partners, pilots and funding — and to keep it open between editions.

In practice, four things
01

Projects reach the stage prepared, after weeks of mentoring and investment-readiness work — not as first-time pitches.

02

Investors and companies arrive with a schedule of one-to-one meetings, built from profiles collected in advance.

03

Partnerships negotiated before the event are signed publicly, which makes the commitment visible.

04

Projects that perform continue in UniCity Factory after the event closes.

What we focus on

Four directions, one route to market

Four content directions run across the programme, the accelerator and the exhibition.

01

Clinical innovation & translational research

Anchored in the University Clinical Hospital “George Emil Palade”: real clinical needs presented to researchers and companies, and research moving toward clinical use.

02

AI & robotics in medicine

Surgical and assistive robotics, diagnostic support and medical imaging. Panels connect directly to live demonstrations in the Expo Area.

03

Health data & interoperability

The European Health Data Space, data exchange between hospitals, and what the regulatory framework means for hospitals, startups and research groups.

04

From research to market

Technology transfer, university spin-offs, intellectual property, and the practical steps between a laboratory result and a product.

The technology vertical covers projects outside medicine that follow the same route to market: industrial software, hardware, robotics and applied engineering.

Who the summit is for

Built for the whole chain

Researchers & research teams

From universities, hospitals and institutes, with projects at any stage from idea to spin-off.

Startups & scale-ups

Health technology, medical devices, diagnostics, digital health and applied technology.

Clinicians & hospital management

Present both as an audience and as a source of the problems worth solving.

Companies

Pharma, medtech, clinical services, industrial technology and software — as exhibitors, partners or buyers.

Investors & funds

Looking for deal flow in life sciences and technology in Central and Eastern Europe.

Public authorities & institutional partners

With a role in regional development, health infrastructure and innovation policy.

Students & residents

At the beginning of a research or entrepreneurial path.

How we work

Principles that shape the event

Preparation before exposure

Selected projects go through an accelerator before they reach the stage. The quality of the finals depends on the weeks that precede them.

Meetings are the main product

Panels set the agenda, but the value comes from one-to-one meetings — brokered in advance, partly by hand, through the organisers’ network.

Open to early-stage work

Applications require no business plan and no commercial traction. The form uses research language and TRL stages alongside business fields.

Equity-free prizes

The prize pool takes no equity from the projects.

Institutional anchoring

The university provides the academic framework, the clinical connection and the venue. Romanian Business Leaders provides the network of entrepreneurs, investors and mentors.

Curated rather than crowded

The number of exhibitors, projects and panel sessions is limited by design, so participants can actually meet each other.

Programs

One summit, several ways in

The Summit brings together everything happening under the Unicity umbrella. Start with the Factory — our open-call accelerator — with more programs opening over time.

Summit Days

Two days of talks, workshops and the pitch final in Târgu Mureș. Program and speakers announced soon.

What remains after the event

UniCity Factory continues the work between editions — an incubator for startups coming out of research and the accelerator, a research and innovation centre connecting academic teams with companies, and an idea bank with an investment instrument for university projects. The Summit is the annual open call that feeds the Factory; each edition adds a new cohort of projects and partners.

Sponsors

Backed by our partners

The Summit is made possible by organisations investing in health and technology innovation. Sponsor logos and tiers announced soon.
